چکیده

This note gathers the existing information on the parameters of the CMS silicon microstrip detectors, in order to compute the signal–to–noise ratio for different configurations. Both signal and noise are computed analytically, starting from laboratory measurements of the characteristic impedances of the detectors. Results are presented for a 50 m strip pitch detector, read out every strip and every second strip, and for a 100 m pitch detector read out every second strip.

Signal-to-Noise in Silicon Microstrip Detectors with Binary Readout

We report the results of a beam test using double-sided ACcoupled silicon microstrip detectors with binary readout, i.e., a readout where the signals are discriminated in the front-end electronics and only the hit location as kept. For strip pitch between 50μm and 200μm, we determine the efficiency and the noise background as function of threshold setting. This allows us to reconstruct the Land...

Beam test results on n on n type silicon microstrip detectors before and after neutron irradiation

We present beam test results on AC-coupled, single-sided, n-on-n type silicon microstrip detectors. We have tested the detectors before and after irradiation at a fluence of 8.3× 10 n/cm, at different temperatures and bias voltages. The signal-to-noise ratio, spatial resolution, charge collection and overall efficiency have been measured.

Performance of the Silicon Detectors for the CMS Barrel Tracker

The Compact Muon Solenoid is a detector designed for the Large Hadron Collider. High particle rates combined with a magnetic field of 4 T make particle tracking a challenge. The baseline is to use silicon pixel and microstrip detectors and microstrip gas chambers. This talk focuses on the barrel part of the silicon tracker. It is made of 816 modules (368 single-sided and 448 double-sided) arran...

Universit . . at Bonn Physikalisches Institut Performance of a Beam Telescope Using Double Sided Silicon Microstrip Detectors ?

A beam telescope consisting of four double sided, DC coupled microstrip detectors with VLSI readout electronics has been built and tested in a 70 GeV ? beam at CERN. A signal to noise ratio of 53:1 and a spatial resolution of 2.7m (junction side) and 4.8m (ohmic side) have been observed on the best detectors. A telescope performance for a particle track of xy = 2 ? 3 m and slope = 2 ? 3 rad on ...

The Silicon Tracking System of CMS

The paper describes the large silicon tracking system of CMS, one of the two general purpose detectors planned at the Large Hadron Collider of CERN. The system consists of three layers of silicon microstrip detectors instrumenting the interaction region as part of the Inner Tracking Detector of CMS. The expected performance of the system is discussed together with preliminary test beam results ...
